Cost Accountant
Duties/Responsibilities of a Cost Accountant:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities
- The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data
accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management
- Establishment of labor & machine rates
- Standard Cost versus Actual Cost variance analysis
- Balance sheet responsibility for inventory accounts
- Construct data accumulation systems for a cost accounting system
- Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems
- Maintenance of part costs in ERP system
- Active participation in inventory reduction projects
- Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
- Update standard costs in the bill of materials
- Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles
- Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Daily/Weekly/Monthly Management reporting
- Fixed asset tracking
- Trains and instructs other employees as directed
- Cross train with Accounting Supervisor and Controller
- Also helpful to have experience manipulating large databases
- Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending and labor variances
- Strong analytical skills
- ERP experience is a must
- Able to work independently
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
CPA or CMA certification preferred but not required - Cost Accounting: 3 years
