Network Administrator

Duties/Responsibilities of a Network Administrator:

• Maintenance of computer networks and systems, including software, big brand switches, VPNs, firewalls, routers and other physical hardware
• Installation and configuration of network equipment to update or fix hardware or software issues
• Monitor computer systems to improve network performance for computer systems and networks
• Communicate networking issues to other employees and management, especially in training new users
• Fix software and hardware configuration issues for users on-demand or from inspection of the systems
• Keep up to date with advances in networking technology and make recommendations for improvements
• Monitor SDWAN connections between sites
• Work with security group to update and maintain MFA

Required Skills/Abilities of a Network Administrator:

• Configuration and operational familiarity with big brand switches along with firewall hardware and software.
• Familiarity of Windows and Linux operating systems and their intermediate level commands/utilities along with the ability to edit files, use basic utilities and commands, find users' home directories, navigate through the file system, install software on workstations, and use I/O redirection; some understanding of how user authentication happens in a directory service context
• Experience with setting up IPSEC tunnels
• Experience with SDWAN setup and troubleshooting
• Experience with MFA systems
• Ability to identify/locate shared resources and perform simple tasks (e.g., manipulate jobs in a print queue, figure out why a network file system isn't available)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to explain simple procedures in writing or verbally
• Excellent troubleshooting skills

Education and Experience of a Network Administrator:

• B.S. degree or certificate in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
• 3-5 years of experience as a Network Administrator
